Dental caries is a transmissible but preventable disease caused by bacteria.
Early colonisation with mutant Streptococcus is an important risk factor for EPC and future caries.
Annual check-ups in the canton of Fribourg are only compulsory from the age of 1 year. However, dental caries, especially early childhood caries, is not a disease that takes off from school. Early childhood caries (ECC) is a particularly virulent form of tooth decay, characterised by a massive infection load and associated with unsupportive feeding practices. ECC initially manifests itself as carious lesions on the smooth surfaces of the upper primary incisors. As the infection progresses, decay spreads to the occlusal surfaces of the upper first molars and then to the other primary teeth, and may lead to the destruction of the primary dentition. ECC is a public health problem that continues to affect infants and preschoolers worldwide. According to a comprehensive study on the epidemiology of PBS, the prevalence of this infection varies from population to population, but disadvantaged children – regardless of race, ethnicity or culture – are the most vulnerable.
This is why Dr Erdogan and her team aim to implement an oral health policy based on equality and equity for all children. Thus, by removing all barriers to accessing dental care, especially before school, the destructive effect of tooth decay does not accumulate until school age.
There are many barriers to access, such as insufficient general knowledge of health care institutions, economic barriers, language barriers or lack of networking.
The principle of equity in access to dental care from birth implies an economic measure; a point value of 1 franc allows all children from birth the same chance to access dental care in due time by eliminating the divide between children from advantaged and disadvantaged families. Il y a une tĂ©lĂ© accrochĂ© au plafond pour les patients, on peut Ă©couter la musique qu’on souhaite ou regarder ce qu’on veut sur YouTube pendant que la dentiste s’occupe de nos dents. Le prix des traitements et des contrĂ´les dans ce cabinet est comme celui au service dentaire scolaire donc il est très raisonnable.
